VILLAHERMOSA
Villahermosa, meaning ‘Beautiful Village’ in Spanish, is the state capital of Tabasco, and is located in the Mexican Gulf Coast region, in southeastern Mexico.  Theclimate is humid and tropical, with an average year-round temperature of 25º C (77º F), however it does reach up to 40º C (104º F) during the summer months.
Known as La Esmeralda del Sureste (the Emerald of the Southeast), Villahermosa is an important and modern business centre rich in natural resources for farming and agriculture, and an important centre for the Mexican oil industry.  Villahermosa offers a wide variety of cultural and tourist attractions, and has an interesting history, from its founding by the Spanish in 1592, through to its role played in the American-Mexican War and French occupation of the region.  The main tourist attractions in the city include the main square, the Catedral del Senor Tabasco (Catedral of The Lord of Tabasco), the Tabasco History Museum, and the Parque Tomas Garrido caníbal and Parque-Museo La Venta.  Also of particular interest is the Tabasco 2000 complex, which has a planetarium, shopping mall, numerous department stores, boutiques, restaurants and a five-star hotel.  There you’ll also find city government buildings El Palacio Municipal and El Centro Administrativo de Gobierno.
The Cascadas de Agua Blanca, is located near Villahermosa, and offers stunning natural scenery of mountains, jungles, lakes, rivers and the Centla Marshes, one of the wettest zones in southeast Mexico.  Near the city you also can visit the Yumka Zoo and archaeological sites at La Venta and Comalcalco, which were both ancient capitals of the Olmec and Mayan civilisations.
