Mexico is made up of 31 states, and the region is divided into 7 tourist areas:

The Mexican Riviera or Pacific Coast  Here you’ll find cities and towns with rich cultural and culinary traditions, as well as some of the best beaches in Mexico, ideal for swimming, surfing and fishing.
Includes the states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, and Guerrero
 
The Central Gulf of Mexico Lined with the shores of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, this region offers an abundance of marshes, mangrove swamps and lush forests, all of which are ideal for outdoor adventures
Includes the states of Veracruz and Tabasco
 
Southern Mexico  Nestled among the Southern Sierra Madre Mountains, with its coastline along the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of Tehuantepec, popular for its authentic Mexican flavour and feel.

Yucatan and the Mayan Riviera  The gateway to the Mayan world.  With white-sand beach resorts and the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, perfect tropical weather, where you can scuba dive along the world’s second largest coral reef.
Includes the states of Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Campeche, and Chiapas
